HORSES FOR HEROES

Atlanta Horses for Heroes

Equine Assisted Therapy for
Wounded Warriors

Located on the beautiful Chattahoochee River within the Atlanta city limits, Huntcliff Equestrian Center offers a serene and peaceful environment for our wounded warriors and their families.

Atlanta Horses for Heroes offers therapeutic horseback riding and equine assisted psychotherapy for both the wounded warrior and their family. Our Horses and Heroes program addresses the issues faced by troops returning from war with combat related trauma such as traumatic brain injuries and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD). Many of these troops are facing stressed marital and family relationships and equine assisted activities help bridge the gap between active duty military and civilian life.

All
activities are conducted by NARHA and EAGALA certified instructors and mental health professionals. Because Huntcliff is surrounded by water, we decided to add fishing to our program....from the shore or a canoe. It's an outdoor paradise that is ideal for those suffering from combat injuries...both physical and emotional.

Horses Ideal for Therapy

Why use horses for therapy? One reason is because horses need a lot of care. A veteran can put aside his or her own troubles in the immediate job of caring for the horse. Horses are large and strong, which challenges a person to overcome his fear in order to work with the animal. Horses mirror moods, too; they respond negatively to negative emotions, teaching the veteran that his behavior can affect others, and making it necessary to modify behavior in order to work successfully with the animal.
